Bally Hooley Train

Updated: 05-Jun-2007

Relive the days of old when fuel was coal and engines ran on steam…

The Bally Hooley Steam Railway is a small steam train that shuttles between the Marina Mirage, Sheraton Country Club and St.Crispins Station (at the southern end of the golf course).

The line used by the Bally Hooley Steam Railway was once used to transport sugar and passengers between Mossman and the wharf at Port Douglas. It was formally opened on the 1st of August 1900 and trains where operated by the Douglas Shire Council until 1957.

Today, the Bally Hooley passenger service operates every Sunday and Wednesday, hauled by restored cane locomotives on 4km of track between Port Douglas Marina and St.Crispins Station.

At St.Crispins Station watch as the drivers push the engine around on a large historic turntable to reconnect with the train for the return journey.

Operated by a team of fully accredited volunteers, your patronage helps to ensure these historic trains continue to be enjoyed in the Douglas Shire.

Tickets can be purchased on the train, or in the Sun Palm Transport office opposite the station entrance at the Marina Mirage.
